Not long ago, I got a call from a homeowner who was both frustrated and worried. Their solar company had suddenly gone out of business, and with no one to call for support, their system had stopped working. They felt stranded. In fact, they assumed the worst, that they were staring down a huge and unexpected expense. At one point, they even asked me if the only option was to scrap everything and have a brand new system installed.

Now, this is a moment where many companies might jump at the chance to close a big sale. But that is not how I work. Instead of rushing into a pitch, I wanted to slow things down and really understand the situation. Together, we walked carefully through what might be happening, step by step, checking the most likely causes before considering anything drastic.

To their surprise and their relief, it turned out the fix was not complicated at all. There was no need for a new system and no giant invoice waiting around the corner. With just a little direction, the homeowner’s grandson was able to reset and troubleshoot the issue himself. Within a short time, the solar system was back online and working just as it should, without the family having to spend a single dollar.

Moments like that remind me exactly why I do this work. For me, this business is not just about selling solar panels or upgrading systems. It is about solving problems, protecting people’s investments, and making sure homeowners actually receive the long term value they signed up for when they chose solar in the first place. Sometimes the right answer really is a brand new system, but other times the best thing I can do is help someone maximize what they already have.

At the end of the day, my measure of success is not the size of a sale. It is the trust I leave behind. I would rather know I did right by a homeowner, even if it means passing on a bigger paycheck, than push someone into buying something they do not truly need. That is the standard I hold myself to, and it is the difference I believe this industry desperately needs more of.

Listen below.  This is a good example of the type of calls I receive.
